Fact-Check Policy

a) Updating Bharat is dedicated to ensuring the publication of accurate information throughout all its content. Our commitment to accuracy involves thorough investigation, skepticism of claims, questioning assumptions, and challenging conventional wisdom.

b) We are steadfast in our pursuit of due accuracy in all our output, a commitment integral to our reputation and the trust of our audiences. The term ‘due’ implies that accuracy must be adequate and appropriate to the output, considering the subject and nature of the content, and explicitly highlighting any constraints that may influence that expectation.

c) All our output, in alignment with its content and nature, must be well-sourced, based on available evidence, and corroborated. We are committed to being transparent about areas where our knowledge is limited, avoiding baseless speculation. Our journalists refrain from deliberate plagiarism or distorting facts or context, including knowingly manipulating visual information.

d) Updating Bharat seeks independent verification from sources, particularly for claims, information, or allegations made by public officials or those with agendas beyond truthful reporting. Unsubstantiated content is typically attributed.

e) We stand by the accuracy of the information we publish on UpdatingBharat.com. If proven otherwise, we promptly amend the news item or information. We do not knowingly mislead our audiences, distort facts, or present invented material as facts that could erode trust. We acknowledge serious factual errors and correct them promptly and transparently.

f) Our journalists concentrate on reporting, composing, and fact-checking narratives, which undergo scrutiny by one or more editors. Updating Bharat has a multi-level fact-checking structure for stories requiring due diligence, with the seniority of editors reviewing stories varying based on factors like complexity, sensitivity, and time pressure.

Our Correction Policies:

While UpdatingBharat.com consistently pursues excellence and accuracy, we acknowledge the inevitability of occasional errors. In the event of such errors, UpdatingBharat.com assumes responsibility for rectifying them and upholds a commitment to transparency, ensuring all parties have confidence that the inaccurate information is promptly addressed.

The steps outlined below outline the procedures each party should follow to attain the objectives of accuracy, transparency, and excellence:

READERS:
If a reader identifies an error, they should contact the editor-in-chief, Emilee Wentland, immediately via email, phone, mail, or in person.

Email: contact@updatingbharat.com

Subject: Correction Needed

Corrections are officially submitted only when the readers contact the editor-in-chief directly. Corrections submitted to other UpdatingBharat.com staff may not be addressed promptly or at all.

Corrections should include the correction, issue date or number, where the correction was seen (print, online, etc.), the reader’s name, and contact information. Readers should also provide the correct information and the source where they found it, if applicable.

The reader can expect a response from the editor-in-chief and may be contacted further if a clarification is needed or additional information is required. Note that a correction submission guarantees an investigation but not necessarily the issuance of a correction.

UPDATING BHARAT:
Once made aware of an error, the editor-in-chief investigates using information from the reader, meeting minutes, reporter recordings, and other available sources.

If an error is confirmed, corrections will be made across all platforms where the incorrect information was disseminated:

  • PRINT: Corrections will be printed on page 2A in the next issue, specifying the issue, article, and correction.
  • UPDATINGBHARAT.COM: The article will be corrected, and an editor’s note will be added to the bottom of the article indicating the correction.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA: If the article was posted on online platforms controlled by Updating Bharat, a post will be made linking to the corrected article, acknowledging the correction.

After making the correction, the editor-in-chief contacts the reader who submitted the correction, providing details on the steps taken to rectify the error.
